Summer of Service

A three-month promotional campaign aimed at increasing community volunteerism during the summer.

All northern Nevada residents are be invited and encouraged to participate, with considerable attention being placed on youth service  (next generation leadership) and tourists (aka voluntourism).

When: June 1 through August 31

Why

The state of volunteerism is quite low in northern Nevada. Not only does the State of Nevada rank last in the entire country, many local organizations would benefit from voluntary service. The volunteerism rate of 20.6% of all Nevadans ranked as the lowest in the United States last year. Yet, the economic impact in northern Nevada from this low rate was an astonishing $266.5 million. Imagine the economic impact if 30% of northern Nevadans volunteered…it could surpass $300 million!

To make this work, we’re…

  • Responding to a growing leadership issue by addressing the critically low volunteerism participation.
  • Seeking ways to strengthen our community. This is a no-cost solution for both residents and local non-profit organizations.
  • Carving the path of future community leadership through youth service opportunities.
  • Capturing the attention of people visiting northern Nevada, who will be invited to become actively familiar with our residents, events, and local community.

How it works

  • NPcatalyst will work with non-profit leaders to register their volunteer job opportunities online
  • Nevada Volunteers provides the online link to their Volunteer Match web portal
  • NPcatalyst and medial promotions will drive residents to the Summer Of Service webpage and online volunteer system

Pathways to Success

The campaign has already proven successful, even before its public launch. To maximize its potential, we’re seeking:

  • Active involvement of non-profit leaders to endorse the campaign and register volunteer opportunities
  • Strong media exposure through messaging and advertising
  • Supportive endorsements from key community partners

Opportunities

The impact generated from this simple three-month campaign will be both immediate and long-term. It can be maximized through two primary opportunities:

  • Social media advancement by liking, sharing, retweeting, and commenting on promotional messages
  • Advertising support to increase media exposure

The volunteer promotion and connection campaign is completely free to all participants and the community. However, an advertising package is being designed for those interested in publicly endorsing the project and, just as powerfully, magnifying its community-wide exposure. A portion of each advertising dollar will be allocated to Nevada Volunteers, which exists to enhance volunteerism and service among all Nevadans.

All inquires for information, volunteer connections, and financial support should be made to Pete Parker of NPcatalyst, a Reno-based firm passionate about connecting potential donors and volunteers with non-profit organizations. He can be reached at 333-9444 and pparker@npcatalyst.com.
