Organization Information
Mission: Special
Olympics Nevada provides free programs to children and adults with
developmental disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and
other cognitive impairments. Our
services are offered state-wide; while we are a sports organization, sports are
simply our tool to help improve quality of life and encourage inclusion.

Volunteer
Needs: Our organization is under-supported at the
Board/Advocate level in the Reno/Sparks and Capitol area. We have an ever
growing athlete enrollment, capable and caring volunteers and are fortunate to
be in a position of expansion and improvement. We are developing a multi-year
plan to create more youth-focused programming, both for special needs children
and their peers (to encourage inclusion.)
We are also working to redefine some of our organizational procedures to
accommodate the massive influx of children with autism who require a support
system and program a bit more individualized that our traditional special needs
athlete.
Needs in the Reno/Sparks/Carson City area include, but are
not limited to:
-Individuals to coordinate our school-based initiative
-Individuals to provide consistentcy in our volunteer
training service/curriculum
-Individuals to participate at an Advisory Board level to
help establish the muli-year plan and advocate for Special Olympics Nevada
