Organization Information

Mission: We change the perspective of vulnerable children living in poverty by helping them recognize their potential. We plant a carefully screened Big Brother or Big Sister in the child's life, who believes in the future promise of the child. Coaching of the volunteer mentor leads to positive outcomes such as improved academic performance and attitude.

Volunteering

Seeking Board Members? Yes

Volunteer Needs:

1. Volunteer Big Brother and Big Sister mentors - get togehter once a week either in a school or community setting.

2. Volunteers for our Young Professionals Committee - professionals in their 20's and 30's young in their careers get toether once a month and assist with fundraising and volunteer recruitment.

3. Volunteers for our Board of Directors - well connected, high level executives to raise funds, provide governance and plan for the agency's future. Terms are 2 years, renewable twice.

4. Special Events Task Force - volunteers to help staff booths at community events to recruit new Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers and/ or raise funds. Fun events include wine walks, art shows, sporting events.

5. Gala Committee - help generate "buzz" by selling tickets and tables and/ or collect auction items.

6. Bowl for Kids' Sake - form a team of 5 people and raise funds online to support changing more local children's lives. Bowling party and prizes, to thank you.

Comment: We have ambitious plans to grow to scale to make a sizable dent to graduate a higher % of youth from high school, resist drugs and alcohol and to gain a sense of their future possibilites. We would also like to own a building of our own to house our growth, in a visible location in Reno.
