Vision
A community where children and families have the resources and tools to live balanced, healthy lives. We hope to achieve this vision by providing information, support and everyday tips and tools to families so their children will: be healthy and active, ready for school, have increased literacy skills and benefit from non-screen, positive parent interactions.
History
For over ten years, Tune In To Kids has worked to raise awareness about the effects of the quality and quantity of media use on children and families. We began in 2000 with a handful of organizations planning Tame the TV Week. By 2004, the first Tune In To Kids Fair was held, and after holding the 2006 Fair at Idlewild Park, there was an interest to expand the calendar of activities to year round. According to new research from the Kaiser Family Foundation, kids ages 8 to 18 spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen and that doesn’t include time spent texting, or talking on cell phones. With this fast-growing use of technology, our efforts are now focused on providing everyday resources to families through a variety of avenues, as well as conducting professional development and parent training on balancing technology within children’s lives.
